South Drive- Palos Verdes Drive South includes the area along Palos Verdes Drive South from Palos Verdes Drive East westward to Hawthrone Boulevard and from the oceanfront to the base of the hillside to the North of Palos Verdes Drive South. Portuguese bend is a region with the largest area of natural vegetation remaining on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Once slated for development, the area is geologically unstable for building. The peninsula, which was an island on the Palos Verdes Hills as close similarities to the Channel Islands. The Portuguese Bend Landslide is a slow moving landslide located on the Palos Verdes Hills. The hills form an elongated dome that rises from sea level to altitudes more than 430 meters. The regional climate is characterized by mild winters and hot summers. The Portuguese Bend Club is a private beach colony featuring 94 homes with its occupants living alongside the Portuguese Bend Landslide. Once a favorite summer vacation spot with small cottages and homes in the 1940s, the area spans over 38 acres with a half mile of coastline. The Club noq offers its members a volleyball court, tennis court, playground equipment, picnic tables, and firepits. Prior to 1956, the club featured a dock and clubhouse, paddle tennis courts, and swimming pool. All were destroyed by the 260 acre landslide in 1956 triggered by L.A county road crews who were working on the an extension of Palos Verdes Drive West. About 100 homes were destroyed and 50 damaged along with the club house, restaurant, and pool.

Abalone Cove shoreline park, located West of Portuguese Bend, is a coastline preserve with public access to the beach. The shoreline is protected along the Peninsula and there are particularly beautiful tide pools at Portuguese Bend, Point Vicente, and at the Oceanfront development. Palos Verdes Shoreline park extends from Palos Verdes Drive South to the ocean at the eastern border of the city to San Pedro.

The East Side– Palos Verdes Drive East runs along Palos Verdes Drive East from Conestoga Drive to North of Marymount College. It borders Rolling Hills on the West and San Pedro on the East and offers a mixture of horse properties and developed subareas. Communities include Sunnyside Ridge, Crestmount, and Rockinghorse. The East side of the Peninsula enjoys spectacular views of the city lights, Harbor and Catalina.

Miraleste is a community located on the east side of RPV.  It is under control of the Palos Verdes Homes Association and Art Jury with over 344 homes that adhere to the specific architecture guidelines. The Miraleste Plaza offers residents a commercial development with a service station, shops, and restaurants.

Miraleste Intermediate School is one of the three public middle schools in the PVP Unified School  District. Located on a twenty acre campus in Rancho Palos Verdes, this school overlooks the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors and serves three of the cities on the Peninsula- Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates.

The South Coast Botanic Gardens located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, 10 miles south of Los Angeles International Airport, is known as the Jewel of the Peninsula. The 87-acre garden has more than 2,500 different species of plants from places such as Australia, the Mediterranean, and southern Africa. Hilltop Area- Crest is the area of homes east of Hawthrone Blvd, south of Peninsula Center, and north of Indian Valley. Communities are Wallace Ranch, SeaView, Stonecrest, Armaga Springs, Mesa Verde, Mira Verdes town homes, Ridgegate town homes, Hilltop town homes, andighridge town homes.

Ridgecrest is one of the three public middle schools in the PVPUSD. The school opened in 1965 but closed in 1991 due to declining enrollment. The school reopened in 2000 after enrollment increased. The school offers a live broadcast journalism program known as the “Ridgecrest News Network.” The students also produce as monthly newspaper.

Silver Spur, otherwise known as Grandview, is a community of older homes Northwest of Hawthorne Blvd. Silver Spur Elementary School and Cornerstone Elementary School are located in this area.
